Information for Patients, family & carers

Thank you for considering AdaptLife for your care. We have a holistic approach to OT and are committed to developing the right solutions for you.

Please select from one of the following:

Patient / Carer / Relative / Friend

Patient

At AdaptLife we understand how important it is to be able to take care of yourself and to remain in charge of your life. We can assist you with many of the challenges you might be facing: how to live well after an accident, expressing a non binary gender identity, or ageing and stress. Never assume that a life that is getting difficult is acceptable and normal. There are many ways to deal with life events. AdaptLife can explore these possibilities together with you.

AdaptLife is a completely confidential service without stigma. We can be an advocate for you in meetings that determine your next step in life, whether that is moving house or negotiating a gender transition. We can help you to maintain your independence and support your move toward self-advocacy.

We strongly believe that no matter what your challenges, you should still be making your own decisions about how you live your life.

Carer

You’re caring for someone with physical limitations, someone who seems very low, or has a demanding medical routine. If you are finding it difficult to cope due to exhaustion, stress or physical strain, AdaptLife is here to help.

We would suggest meeting you in your place of work (whether it is your own home or the patient’s home). We will spend time learning about your daily routine, your responsibilities, physical and emotional, and listen to what your main concerns are.

Relative

If you’re worried about how your relative is managing at home, we can help you explore the situation further.

After establishing exactly the level of care your relative requires, we would then discuss the choices available to you. These could include keeping your relative at home using specialised support equipment, caring for your relative yourself or employing a carer. We can also assist in dealing with tense situations at home with other relatives.

Friend

We all want to help the people we care about. One way to do that is to provide them with access to a service that can help them see solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems. If you are helping someone by doing their shopping and messages and you are concerned that they need more assistance than you can give, Adaptlife can help.
